We're hiring a short-term Member Engagement & Communications Coordinator for the summer! As our membership continues to grow, we want to create space for everyone involved in Resource Movement to meaningfully shape the direction of our work. This summer contract is an awesome opportunity for a young person who's passionate about democratic engagement, loves coordinating detailed projects, and has a flair for creating compelling educational resources.
Resource Movement Overview
Resource Movement, a project on the Tides Canada shared platform, is a multi-racial community of young people with wealth and/or class privilege working toward the redistribution of wealth, land, and power. Our vision is a world where wealth and power are shared equitably, and Indigenous land rights are respected. A world where all communities can tell their own stories, live well, and shape their own future. In our work, we educate ourselves about the roots of inequality, encourage each other to take bold action in solidarity with social justice movements, and open space for critical voices within philanthropy. With Chapters in Montreal and Toronto, our network includes over 100 young people across Canada who participate in learning opportunities, show up for social justice movements, and engage in campaigns.
Resource Movement is hiring a summer staff position: a Member Engagement & Communications Coordinator, based in Toronto. This position will be responsible for strengthening Resource Movement’s ongoing member communications, primarily through coordinating a national member drive and developing a ‘new member’ zine. This position will be directly supervised by two Resource Movement members. This is an opportunity to help shape an emerging national project with ambitious goals for accelerating social justice organizing in Canada.

Contract duration: 8 weeks, July 8 (ideal start date) - August 30

1) Support member communications by coordinating a national member drive and peer consultation process, including through:
Participating in the planning process for a national member consultation to be carried out through 1-on-1 peer conversations as well as an online survey
Coordinating the member drive, ensuring every member is consulted thoroughly and effectively, prioritizing feedback collection in a manner that is accessible and inclusive
Aggregating and synthesizing member feedback, which will inform Resource Movement’s national strategy development process
2) Developing a New Member Zine, which will be used to onboard new Resource Movement members, including through:
Liaising with RM members to develop the table of contents for the zine
Gathering relevant materials, resources and content for the zine
Developing written content for the zine, in collaboration with RM members
Formatting and designing the zine, collaborating with RM members and others to develop graphics, comics, or other visual content
Launching the zine at RM’s National Member Gathering (August 23-25), and organizing a session on using this zine as a tool to engage new members
Secondary Responsibilities (dependent on capacity)
Creating and posting content via the Resource Movement website and social media channels, as appropriate
Contributing to monthly member newsletters

Characteristics & Attributes
High level of comfort discussing class, wealth, and economic inequity; understanding of historical roots of acquisition of land, wealth and power
Personal drive to support the redistribution of resources toward historically oppressed/ marginalized communities
Non-judgmental approach to social justice work, open to engaging with people at a range of points on their journeys of (un)learning
Strong belief in the possibility and importance of cross-class collaboration for social justice
Strong grounding in an anti-oppressive framework

The Member Engagement & Communications Coordinator will be responsible for arranging their own working environment for the duration of the contract (i.e. Resource Movement will not be providing an office space). They will be responsible for using their own phone and computer for the duration of the contract. An additional stipend of $40/week will be provided to offset these costs.

To be eligible to apply, you must:
be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
